Shiseido Research Institute's "fibona" Collaborates to Create Beauty Products "Skin Accessories™" Available in Limited Quantities

2025.07.18

Shiseido Research Institute’s open innovation program “fibona” (*1), which aims to co-create “what does not yet exist” in beauty products, will launch “Skin Accessories™” on July 21, 2025 (Monday). These products utilize the “Second Skin” technology, which forms artificial skin on the surface to integrate with the skin and correct unevenness. They will be available in limited quantities at two stores: Matsumoto Kiyoshi Shibuya Dogenzaka Flag and @cosme Tokyo. Matsumoto Kiyoshi Shibuya Dogenzaka Flag will host a pop-up event from July 21 (Monday) to July 31 (Thursday), while @cosme Tokyo will feature a special exhibition in its entrance space from July 30 (Wednesday) to August 5 (Tuesday).

◆ Enables decorative self-expression, evolving traditional makeup techniques.
◆ Maintains comfort for extended periods while ensuring easy removal.
◆ Offers three types of accessory parts, including metallic pieces and dried flowers.

“Skin Accessories™” Utilizing “Second Skin” Technology

In 2018, Shiseido acquired the patented “Second Skin” technology from U.S.-based venture Olivo Laboratories and has since enhanced its functionality by combining it with Shiseido’s formulation development expertise (*2). The “Second Skin” technology forms artificial skin on the surface, integrating with the skin to correct unevenness, and has expanded the boundaries of cosmetics by making under-eye bags and sagging less noticeable in a short period of time. By applying this technology, accessory parts are fixed to the skin, enabling decorative and diverse expressions that go beyond traditional makeup. Its elasticity and adhesion ensure both durability and ease of removal, while its breathability provides comfort and gentleness to the skin.
