The Shiseido Global Innovation Center started full-scale operations in April 2019 as an urban open laboratory. The open space on the lower floors serves as an area for interaction between customers and researchers, collaboration with external research institutions and startups in Japan and overseas, and the creation of diverse working styles for researchers, thus leading to the "fusion of diverse knowledge and people.

The project name "fibona" is derived from the Fibonacci sequence, a sequence of numbers representing the golden ratio that shows a harmonious and beautiful proportional relationship. With "fibona”, Shiseido is creating new values to excite the world by fusing together unique ideas and technologies from outside the company with Shiseido's knowledge of beauty and science.

From Yuko Nakanishi, fibona Project Leader Shiseido has been expressing the diverse values of beauty for about 150 years. Let’s work together to create beauty that has no answers, give people confidence and courage, and take on the challenge of innovation that brings joy and happiness to as many people as possible. We are implementing the following four activities and look forward to working with you.

1) Co-Creation with Startups
This is a program for the acceleration of co-creation with startups in the beauty tech field and related industries.

2) Co-Creation with Consumers
Utilizing S/PARK's facilities and programs, such as S/PARK Studio, researchers and consumers can communicate directly with each other about product experiences and feedback to develop products and solutions together.

3) Speedy trial
In order to introduce the beta version of the technology created through our research to the market more quickly, we are utilizing crowdfunding services and actively participating in beta launch platforms. We are communicating with more consumers from the early stages of development, aiming for innovation that is meaningful to many people.

4) Cultivation
We aim to stimulate enthusiasm and support the ideas of beauty innovators by providing opportunities for diverse knowledge and people to come together, such as meetups between people from different industries related to beauty and Shiseido researchers.
